About Debbie
My surviving siblings and I
I was born and raised on the Canadian Prairies and grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan with 9 siblings. After completing school, I began a 22 year career with Canada Safeway in Edmonton. I started as a training instructor and advanced to a training and development supervisor for Alberta, then moved to Master Trainer of Trainers for Canada and the U.S. I received many awards in my time at Safeway including among others the ‘Exceptional Achievement Award’ and the ‘President’s Award’ for exceptional contribution to the company.
I have been a trustee for 23 years representing Ward 74. In this time I have served 9 years as Chair of The Board of Trustees as well as 5 years as Vice Chair of the Board. I have served on every internal and external committee of the board with the exception of ATA negotiations (my husband was a teacher till he retired a few years ago, and he still subs with the district).
Prior to my election as trustee in 1998, I volunteered as a member of Good Shepherd School Council, and held various positions. I belong to Good Shepherd Parish where my husband Kevin plays music every week until Covid. I am a member of the Catholic Women's League and an advocate for women in the home, in business and in politics. I was awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal in recognition of outstanding leadership. I am a politician, but above all I am a wife and mother to two beautiful girls and proud grandmother to Laurelin and Francis.
